Association for Water and Rural Development (AWARD)

AWARD is an NGO that works on water supply in the broader context of managing water resources and their wise use with a focus on learning about water security issues in the Sand River Catchment area. Award has been instrumental in integrating Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the catchment and securing Water to Enhance Local Livelihoods (SWELL) at village level on the other hand.

Its mission is to develop and test new and appropriate ways of managing water to address water security issues of wise resource management and equitable allocation in the catchment, through:

• Research based enquiry on implementation
• Writing up and sharing our learning and findings
• Influencing and supporting institutions with responsibility for policy and implementation,
• Working with approaches that impact on the livelihoods of the poorest
