Our mission is to promote access to sanitation and water quality and quantity through citizen participation in decision-making processes in the planning and design of water policies. We also influence public policies at different levels for integrated management of water resources.
The FAN-MEX mission is based on the following principles:
1. Access to safe water and sanitation is above all other considerations, fundamental human rights. States should ensure access for all people to these services without discrimination of gender, ethnicity, religion, economic status or geographic location.
2. Water is and must remain a public asset given its strategic and vital for all nations. Therefore the water is not, nor can it be a commodity, but it has economic value in all its uses, as established by the Dublin Conference.
3. The water supply services and sanitation should be managed and provided by government or nonprofit entities.
4. All water resource management should be done with active participation of users, communities and their organizations and recognizing the particularities and needs of both men and women and of different sectors of society.
