FAN America del Sur / do Sul

Welcome

The South-American Network is a network of civil society organisations, designed with the purpose of promoting the participation of local and national actors in all stages of water policies formulation. The network also works to strengthen grassroots organisations by sharing experiences, building capacity and enhancing the visibility of activities.

Mission

To promote and strengthen South-American local actors’ participation within the legal, social, environmental, economic and political aspects, within the main discussions and elaboration of policies and norms regarding water.

  • To articulate and coordinate joint efforts with other organisations and networks in different parts of the world, especially in the rest of Latin America
  • To enhance local actors education and capacity-building for a more effective participation within the different aspects of the decision-making process
  • To promote the realization that water is for human consumption and sanitation is a fundamental right

Organisational Development

Following informal consultation with some FAN members in South America, Instituto Ipanema has offered to act as pro tempore manager for FANAS.

Instituto Ipanema is member of the Consortium responsible for organising the preparatory works for the 5th World Water Forum.

As a founder member of FAN and in memory of Mariana Sell, former coordinator who tragically died in a plane crash, they decided to lead the reorganisation of the network and to continue the work done by Marta Franco and partners.

There is a lot to be done and Ipanema are ready to do it and give Latin America the representation it deserves. Ipanema wants to promote the construction of the network and strengthen the region’s participation in events, in particular the 5th World Water Forum.
