Shamim Arfeen receives honourable mention at Stockholm World Water Week

FANSA member Shamim Arfeen, Executive Director of AOSED, received an honoury mention for his digital poster at Stockholm World Water Week.

Shamin presented a poster on a Community Initiative to Ensure Peoples’ Access to Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Practices during Stockholm World Water Week, a global water conference attended by over 2,000 water sector professionals.

The poster received an honourable mention in the conference's closing plenary from
Dr Robert Bos of SIWI's scientific programme committee, who said:

"Community Initiative to Ensure Peoples’ Access to Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Practices represented a considered effort of innovative cooperation at the community level with multi-sectoral policy implications. It was also noted for good use of the new technology and the enthusiastic presentation by its author."

Shamin was pleased with the response to his ideas at Stockholm:

"The main message I was trying to convey with my poster was that water is a comprehensive issue in which local, national, regional and international actors can converge and play important roles to establish the rights for ‘Water for All’. The response was great. People were particularly enthusiastic about integrated  approaches, community initiatives and grassroots advocacy."
