Ninon Machado de Faria Leme Franco

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ninon Machado on 11 September 2012.

With a background in law, specialised in public administration, Ninon was a strong supporter of capacity development and institutional organisation in water management, and strong advocate for the environment.

As one of the regional coordinators for FANAS, she led the development of the FAN South America network in recent years. Ninon's commitment and passion was a great asset, particularly her efforts at the Rio20 conference earlier this year. Her passing is a great loss to the FAN family as well as the global water sector

Ninon was very committed to

Ninon was very committed to protection of the environment and she was a great advocate and supporter for FAN over the years, introducing us to networks and NGOs in Brazil and Latin America and participating in various FAN meetings over the years.  I first met Ninon in 2000 at the World Water Forum in the Hague and I am sorry that I didn't meet her again in June at Rio Earth Summit. She was so busy organising so many different events and working hard as usual. So thank you Ninon for all that you did for the environment and for making a difference.
