FANMex participates in the World Water Week - Stockholm, Sweden

From August 31 to September 5, Stockholm Sweden will host the World Water Week and FANMex will be there.

Nathalie Seguin, general coordinator of Freshwater Action Network Mexico, will participate in the World Water Week. Water and Energy Nexus is the principal subject this year.  It is in this context that Nathalie will be sharing the experience of Mexico with the approved energy reform; reform that threatens the human right to water and sanitation.

Throughout history, water has been used as a means for energy production.  We need to stop this, because energy production such as fracking, requires millions of liters of water to function. Fracking is a technique that depends on good quality water to develop, a technique that threatens the realization of the human right to water.

Nathalie will expose how this recent constitutional reform is challeging the realization of the right to water and  the right to health by opening, encouraging and protect investments in the exploration of shale gas through hydraulic fracture, over population rights and interests.
