Más de 100 organizaciones no gubernamentales y de la sociedad civil, entre las cuales se encuentra FANMex, junto con docenas de expertos de primer nivel, expresaron hoy su apoyo al primer plan global por parte de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y UNICEF para enfrentar de manera simultánea neumonía y diarrea -- enfermedades responsables de la muerte de casi dos millones de niños al año – e instaron a gobiernos y sus socios a hacer este plan una realidad.

Water in the post-2015 development agenda

This Beyond 2015 campaign paper was coordinated by WASH United, Freshwater Action Network (FAN) Global and End Water Poverty. It is the outcome of a global thematic consultation on water and the post-2015 development framework focuses on setting out the importance of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Water Resources Management; and Wastewater and Water Quality for the overall post-2015 development agenda.

Consulta regional “Realizando el Futuro que queremos en América Latina y el Caribe: Hacia una Agenda de Desarrollo Post-2015”

 

Del 17 al 20 de abril tendrá lugar en Guadalajara, Jalisco, la consulta regional “Realizando el futuro que queremos en América Latina y el Caribe: Hacia una agenda de desarrollo post 2015”, organizado por el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) y el gobierno de México. Esta consulta regional es parte de un proceso en donde la sociedad civil, el sector privado, la academia y otros actores interesados pueden expresar su visión sobre los temas cruciales a incorporarse en la Agenda de Desarrollo Post 2015, cuando venza el plazo acordado por la comunidad internacional para el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio (ODM).

There are so many important issues and priorities to include in the future post Millennium Development Goal agenda. From my perspective of working on WASH in Rwanda, I believe that an emphasis on local and context-specific projects that prioritise water resource management and sustainability is essential as well acknowledging the role the private sector can play in meeting water and sanitation needs.

Last week I attended a consultation on water as part of the complex and wide ranging discussions that have been ongoing around the post 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) development framework. Through the diverse and high level discussions one promising message stood out – a call for water to be a distinct goal in any future framework.
